Jim Christianson

Jim is a Bismarck native who has been actively involved in the redevelopment of downtown Bismarck for many years, beginning with the $5.6 million dollar Patterson Place project in the 1980’s. Jim is credited with leading the effort to save the Historic Patterson Hotel from the wrecking ball and to convert it into affordable housing for low-income and elderly tenants.

Among other projects, Jim and his partners also restored the Historic Northern Pacific Railroad Depot at 4th and Main, long-time home to Fiesta Villa; and the Historic Capitol Theatre Building, which has been occupied by Dakota Stage Community Theatre since 1987.

A “Zoo Baby”

Jim can legitimately claim that he was “raised with wolves”, as his parents, Marc and Betty Christianson, founded the Dakota Zoo. The Christianson family raised many animals at their hobby farm in northwest Bismarck.

Jim is a licensed pilot and a licensed North Dakota real estate Broker. As President of NorthWest Realty Group he is active in real estate sales and development.

Jim has always believed in giving back to his hometown, including gifts of time and expertise. He was a founding Director, past-President and Treasurer of the Bismarck Historical Society, past-President of the Downtown Business Association and past Director of the Bismarck Air Museum Foundation.

He continues to serve the community as Chair of Bismarck’s Renaissance Zone Authority, as Chair of the Bismarck Parking Authority, and as a member and past-President of the Bismarck State College Foundation Board of Trustees.

Jim also serves as Chair of the Capital Gallery Society and is active in promoting the Society’s non-profit fine art gallery, The Capital Gallery, which is located in the historic Woolworth’s Building at 109 North 4th Street in downtown Bismarck.
